Brenda Rusnak, a physiotherapist by profession, has worked most of her professional career as an entrepreneur and business woman.  Over a 25 year period she built a healthcare company which specializes in the provision of rehabilitation solutions for senior citizens. In 2009, she sold her business and started a new career. She is now the founder and CEO of Best Part Productions Inc. a company which produces thought-provoking, entertaining films. 

Brenda Rusnak also maintains The Best Part Blog where she writes about her experiences as a wife, a mother and a healthcare expert.  She has a particular interest in healthy aging and draws on what she has  learned from her former patients and her many healthy, dynamic 50+ friends, to uncover how men and women can make their later years the best part of their lives.

Currently, Brenda Rusnak is involved in a number of different film projects at various stages of development. Her first feature documentary film “Cyber-Seniors”, directed by Saffron Cassaday, is due to be released in September 2013.  The film follows the extraordinary journey of several senior citizens as they discover the magic of the world-wide-web through the guidance of teenaged mentors. Their inspiring exploration of cyber-space is catapulted to a whole new level when 89 year old Shura decides to create a YouTube cooking tutorial. This sets the ball in motion for a spirited YouTube competition where hidden talents and competitive spirits are revealed. Check out the trailer and website for this heartwarming, humorous film which demonstrates that generation gaps can be bridged when new ways of connecting are explored.

 

 

In her spare time Brenda Rusnak is a recreational photographer and received considerable attention after capturing a one-of-a-kind photograph on a trip to the Tanzania, Africa in 2009. Her picture was chosen as the Editor’s Choice by National Geographic magazine and appeared in the  August 2010 edition.

Brenda Rusnak’s career began over 25 years ago as a physiotherapist. In 1983 she established the Brenda Rusnak Physiotherapy Clinic in Toronto, and in 1989 she established a second company called Active Health Management. Active Health Management became the first healthcare company in Canada to deliver preventative physiotherapy services (including Falls Prevention Programs), to senior citizens residing in Nursing Homes. In 1992, she enabled third-party insurers and employers to access standardized, high-quality rehabilitation services in large and small communities throughout Canada, by building the first national network of independently-owned and operated physiotherapy clinics. Brenda has sat on numerous professional committees, is a frequently invited guest speaker at healthcare conferences and seminars, and is a contributing author in Anne Leckie’s book entitiled “Disability and Claims Management”. She was awarded the Canadian Healthcare Manager's “Who's Who in Healthcare Technology Award”. The award is presented to winners in the areas of government, group insurance, healthcare provider, hospital management, medical research, pharmaceutical, plan sponsor and technology, and is designed to recognize individuals who demonstrate an exceptional level of leadership and vision, and whose unique approach has made a positive impact in their field.

In May of 2009, Brenda Rusnak sold Active Health Management to Centric Health Corporation (TSX: CHH). She has remained a share-holder and a consultant to Centric Health. During her busy career Brenda and her husband of over 25 years managed to raise five wonderful children.
